Beautiful Creatures is the first book in The Casters Chronicles. It is narrated by the male protagonist Ethan Wate and set in fictional Gatlin, South Carolina. Ethan is a sophomore high-school student who lives with his father together with their housekeeper Amma, who became dear to Ethan and became like his grandmother. The story began on the first day of his sophomore year when Ethan met the girl in his recurring dreams, Lena Duchannes, who he will later discover to be a Caster, someone who can use magic. The conflict arises when Lena must be claimed for either Light or Dark on her sixteenth birthday, and the only one who save her is no other than Ethan. Will their love be enough to defeat the odds and the unknown magic much powerful than both of them?
Here's Beautiful Creatures' official trailer that was released on September 29, 2012.
"There were no surprises in Gatlin County. We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere. At least, that's what I thought. Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong. There was a curse. There was a girl. And in the end, there was a grave." - Ethan, excerpt from Beautiful Creatures
