Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Might Be the Next Hit Saga in the Big Screen

August 23, 2013, the set date for the film release of one of the most awaited films of 2013, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Based on the first book of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments Series, Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was first announced on August 22, 2009 by Clare at a book signing in New York City that The Mortal Instrument will be adapted into a trilogy of films.

A year later, Constantin Film and Unique Pictures announced that Harald Zwart (director of Karate Kid) will direct The Mortal Instrument: City of Bones, after Scott Stewart. In the same year, its distributor Screen Gems announced that Lily Collins has been picked to play the role of the main protagonist Clary Fray. The following year, they also confirmed that Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast as Shadow Hunter, Jace Wayland. Finally on August 2012, the filming started in Toronto.

And now after the Twilight Saga has ended, everyone's excited to witness another book series film adaptation to hit the big screen. Mortal Instruments focuses on the story of Clary Fray, a girl who thought all her life that she was like any other teenager but that was until her mother all of a sudden disappeared and she met a stranger only visible in her eyes named Jace Wayland, who introduced himself as Shadow Hunter who kills demons roaming the Earth. Later on, she was faced with the truth that she was destined to become one of them too.

“Clary has the ability to both create new symbols and make runes that are stronger than other people’s," Clare described her character. "The movie was definitely made by people who love the books and wanted to do right by them.”

Here's the trailer for the Mortal Instruments: City of Bones:

"Clary Fray is a Shadowhunter — a member of a secret society of demon hunters. Take that fraught premise and toss in some vampires, werewolves, warlocks, faeries, and a teenage love triangle, and you’ve got the general idea. With a movie version of the series in the works, now’s the time to jump on the bandwagon. Start with City of Bones and prepare to be hooked!" - Entertainment Weekly
